The GOLIATH 2019 has easily been my best Goliath ever. Jen and I played 6 events in total over the course of the 11 days we spent at THE GOLIATH 2019. That’s a lot of poker! Now it doesn’t take a genius to work out that you can’t play 6 events in 11 days and have a super successful Goliath. Las Vegas, Nevada, United States About Blog Card Player is the world’s oldest and most well respected poker magazine and online poker guide. Since 1988, CardPlayer has provided poker players with poker strategy, poker news, and poker results.
So you’re heading to Coventry to take on the Goliath 2019?
Well here’s five (non-strategy related) tips from someone who’s rumbled in the Goliath Jungle before and who can’t wait to do it all over again this year!
You’ve got your poker team together. You’ve booked the Friday off work and you’re ready for one of you to make a deep run at the weekend.
You arrive fresh at the Ricoh Arena on the Friday morning after a great night’s sleep on the floor of the Air BnB you’re sharing. As you descend the escalator into the casino, you are greeted by a line almost the size of GOLIATH himself! You join the back of the queue, but word gets around quick that Day 1G is full – they’re not registering any more players…
DO NOT BE THAT PERSON!
The Goliath is an incredibly busy event. If you are planning on playing the Goliath – especially if you’re planning on playing Thursday’s Day 1F or Friday’s Day 1G – you must register as early as possible!
Luckily for you, it’s really easy to register for THE GOLIATH! You can just pop into any GROSVENOR CASINO, register for the DAY 1 of your choice and you’re set. Alternatively, you can login to your GROSVENOR POKER account (see the pic above) and register there! Super easy and it will save you a lot of time and energy!
***You can only register for ONE Day 1! If you are intending on playing more than one day, you will need to register for each day individually once you have bust the Day 1 you are playing –
You cannot be simultaneously registered for more than one Day 1***
The GOLIATH starts at 11am. You do not want to be the person queuing to get in the casino as you hear ‘shuffle up and deal.‘
Now besides the obvious, there are 2 great reasons to arrive early at The GOLIATH:
*Parking – The Ricoh Arena is blessed with ample parking and rarely have I ever had trouble finding a space. However, if you are late you will likely be parked in the overflow car park – one of which is across a bridge 10 minutes away. Not ideal if you’re already running late!
*Flip ‘n’ Go – At 10am each day, Grosvenor are running ‘Flip n Go’ games in their cash area. This gives you a great opportunity to ‘flip’ your way into an event for a fraction of the price! Click here for more info on the GOLIATH Flip ‘n’ Go games!
So for the love of the Ace of Spades please get there on time!
Ok, this one is a bit tongue in cheek.! But still important if this is your first ever GOLIATH!
For each Day 1 (and Day 2 & 3 if you are fortunate enough to still have chips), you will be given a wristband upon entry to the casino.
Obviously if you end up playing a number of Day 1’s, you’ll end up with a number of wristbands! So you may find that the number of Day 1’s you play directly correlates with the numbers of arm hairs you have by the end of the week!
I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s worth losing a few arm hairs for that £100,000 first place prize!
Take pictures? In a casino?! Not quite. But this is meant to be a festival, right?!
The GOLIATH (and all side events) are actually held in an adjoining part of the Ricoh Arena where you are more than welcome to get a few snaps!
Whether it’s a pic of your growing stack, the remains of a stack that once was, pics with a new friend (or foe!) you’ve made at the table or even a pic with the Big Man DAVID HAYE himself, the team at the GOLIATH encourage you to tweet your pics at them and they’ll display them on huge screens in the arena for all to see! So keep it relatively clean!
As well as the rolling Twitter feed and the Flip ‘n’ Go games, there are a number of exciting opportunities and promotions throughout the week to get involved with, such as:
Sean Heydon – A magnificient close-up magician who works tirelessy to entertain and enthral everyone that he meets. Goliath Poker 2019 Blog Games
Check out this video from last year!
Online Flip Satellites – Whilst you’re battling it out at the tables, the Goliath team will randomly announce that they’re holding an online flip, so grab your phone, log in and see if you can win a GOLIATH seat for next year!
Random Draws/Spin the wheel – Now I’ve never been lucky enough to get one of these, but in previous years the GOLIATH team has offered a number of ways to win a variety of tickets and prizes throughout the week. So keep your eyes peeled for them this year!
So there are my top 5 tips for how to get the most out of your GOLIATH 2019 and I, for one, cannot wait to spend the week in Coventry at the GOLIATH FESTIVAL!

Today’s blog is coming slightly later than planned!
Poker took up so much of our time and energy during the Goliath that there just weren’t many hours left in the day to keep you all updated!
I’ve been debating what to share with you in this blog because there’s just so much to talk about. The atmosphere, the staff, the events themselves – Where do I begin?!
So I thought it best to review the GOLIATH 2019 and REDTOOTH POKER’s events in separate articles to give each of them the attention that they deserve.
As for this blog, you’re in need of a Goliath update. So here’s my Goliath wrap up…
WHAT A WEEK!
The GOLIATH 2019 has easily been mybest Goliath ever.
Jen and I played 6 events in total over the course of the 11 days we spent at THE GOLIATH 2019.
That’s a lot of poker!
Now it doesn’t take a genius to work out that you can’t play 6 events in 11 days and have a super successful Goliath. And results-wise, that was pretty much true for the both of us.
However, the GOLIATH 2019 wasn’t just about returning home with a trophy and stacks of cash stuffed in my undies. It was more about the experience for me this year – getting out there, chatting to people and playing the best poker I could.
Writing this blog has brought a whole new dimension to playing poker and introduced me to hundreds of players I never would have met. With The Poker Jungle only being live for 15 days when the Goliath began, it was pretty cool to have new faces come up to me and compliment me on a blog I’d written.

Whilst there were no major scores or victories to celebrate (I played 4 Day 1’s this year and still missed making Day 2…), we did have a few small successes:
>> Jen made Day 2 of THE GOLIATH, finishing in 414th place with a £330 cash.
>> I finished 15th in the Win The Button event for £80 (the most enjoyable tournament I played all week!)
And then there were these hands…
My hand of the Festival
Picture the scene: It’s Day 1F. The alternates list is already as long as your arm and Day 1G is already full. The days of GOLIATH 2019 being a re-entry are long gone!
17bb to my name, I look down at Jh Jc in early position. I have a few options here, but ultimately decide on the open jam.Goliath Poker 2019 Blog Free
It folds around to the HJ. Of all the players at the table, THIS GUY is not the player who you want to see debating whether to call your all-in or not. He’s played exceptionally tight, extremely passively and is reaching for chips…
Ultimately, he decides on a call and to be honest with you, I’m fairly sure I’m facing an 80%-20% here – and not in my favour!
However, he turns over 7h 7c and we’re going to need to hold!
Check out this run-out…
Jen’s Hand of the Festival:
Button limps, small blind completes and Jen looks down at Jh Jd. Goliath Poker 2019 Blog Game
She raises to isolate the limper. Unfortunately the limper folds but the small blind then rips in his stack for around 40bb.
Waving his arms around in the air, he exclaims, “Might as well spin it up!”
Jen calls.Goliath Poker 2019 Blog Builder
He shows 65o
THIS is the result of that hand: Casino loutraki entrance fee.
So there’s my brief update on how the GOLIATH 2019 went for us. I know I’ve only given you just a few of the highlights – but that’ll teach me for not keeping up with the blog during the week.
MySky Poker Tour blog will be coming in the next day or so, so make sure you’re following on Facebook or Twitter to get the latest updates!
